happy 30th anniversary everyone! how is everyone celebrating? i may listen to some of the soundtrack CDs later :)

i found xena by pure chance one day when i was bored and decided to see if there were ANY shows on hulu that started with the letter "x"... this was back in 2016, when yes, there was! and it was xena!

i was already a superfan of wicked with elphaba and glinda, so yes, the likely promise of another brunette x blonde duo (winkwink) spiked me curious. and i was immediately hooked. xena was something i had never quite seen before. it was campy, it was fun, it was dramatic, and it was heart-breaking. from the first season alone i could already see and feel the amount of love that had gone into making this series, from the elaborate sets and costumes to the sheer number of extras that helped to make the unbelievable, believable.

i had found xena just as i was entering my junior year of high school, and would watch the episodes during free periods or when staying up at night. sometimes my friends would watch it with me, our backs up against the hallways' walls :) i remember one time being a total dope and watching it in the middle of class; we were working on some assignment, the room completely quiet save for the rustling of papers. my ap human geography teacher saw my phone out and simply said "come on," not mad but, not too happy either. i told him i was watching xena: warrior princess and he lit up suddenly and said he knew alexandra tydings... WHAT!!!! they were friends! now i made the totally wise decision (or maybe, the totally unwise decision) to not push it and to not ask for a potential autograph... but man, how cool! how random!

my love for xena would then come back in college when i'd officially purchase the boxed DVD set! oh the joys of winding down after a long day of figuring yourself out with a warm bed and a xena episode--or two :)

and it was in college when i'd find out from my composition II professor that her husband worked on making xena's metal armor! WHAAAAT...! something cosmic is happening here...
